TFW I absolutely LOVE The Madokas TM as worldbuilding and a show/franchise, but I don’t draw content for it because there’s absolutely nothing on Earth more boring to me to draw than a teenage human being.
Never had a Furby who woke up randomly in the night until my wife’s Furby Boom, Bee-doo. It’s only happened 3 or so times during Bee-Doo’s time living with us…
But one of those times happened to be five in the morning today, so this is a callout post for Bee-Doo for being THAT Furby and proving all the urban legends correct (despite being completely the wrong kind of Furby).
Man I dunno, this guy’s in two brief scenes in Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock, but I just think he’s neat. I like to image he’d have a sick mouth beam attack… Lugia aeroblast vibes.
Been listening to soundtrack music from The Madokas for the first time in a while, and it got me inspired to make something for @cosmicsynthetics‘ Metal Sonic au in the style of the ‘witches’ from Madoka Magica.~
(all textures and patterns in this are by me with the exception of the stock imagery of brine shrimp nauplii)
This particular version of Metal Sonic is supposed to be able to take on the madness/overlord dragon form (and use those weird purple energy powers he’s often shown with in the main games) due to the weird-magical-temple-ball-thing Metal picks up in Sonic 4! In this au that thing that literally nobody acknowledges is the core of some kind of long-defeated deity (or extra dimensional being a la Solaris?), and is a lot like the orb forms we sometimes see of iblis, mephiles and the ifrit throughout the franchise.
Combining with Metal Sonic grants the body and mind that this fragment of entity was missing, and in turn Metal Sonic gains some very bizarre powers… But also a ‘soul’, allowing him to start going beyond his original programming and making decisions on his own, leading to the events of sonic heroes and beyond into au territory. c:<
Recently for whatever reason I sat down and made a lil bootleg furby fella!
The ‘faceplate’ takes small googly eyes (or similar sized chips but that’s nowhere NEAR as funny).
This one’s a prototype made with scrap fabric and the first version of the plate, but I have a better, smooooother textured plate in the works rn<3
So, why do you think Frieza would make a good dad that isn’t because of his experience being raised by King Cold?

If you’re a person with significant wealth and/or influence, and you make your super-powered child hate you, they WILL kill you in your sleep and take your place.
so what ARE mobians, do you think?
Alright so like, this is a fun one because there’s multiple answers to choose from with different levels of ‘how thought out was this’ and also varying levels of 'what the actual hell’.
The first totally bizarre one that comes to mind is the original Archie sonic version: Mobians are the post apocalyptic survivors of Earth after it was bombarded from space by alien life, with a weapon that specifically targeted the DNA of living things: Fragmenting it and turning them into bio sludge a la the third impact from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Their ancestors are depicted in a particularly Harrowing image that I will NEVER forget as being the recongealed fragments of DNA randomly reassembling into anthropomorphic forms…

This was some really wacky messy implications later on that allows the archie series to depict humans and near-humans alongside 'Mobians’ (who have since dominated the planet and renamed it Mobius) and gives them some reasoning as to why Mobians can hybridise to some extent (as well as fantastical 'mythical’ creatures existing?). Although they mostly went with the 'the animal type of the kids matches the sex of their parents so they look like little copies of them’ which is a major snore fest imo.
The current canon for Mobians as far as I can tell is that they’re literally an alt. Earth scenario: Instead of humans evolving, it would appear that several animal species all convergently spec’d into a humanoid survival strategy. They seem to be particularly vague about this current setting (not even calling them by a name like 'mobians’ or naming their planet) and it’s unknown what is and isn’t valid, probably just to account for future game plots… So I really couldn’t say how things work with their biology, or even whether or not there are humans around.
Honorable mention goes out to the UK 'sonic the comic’ for just saying 'It’s another planet entirely but ALSO there’s dimension and time bending so really you can justify anything if you flip and rotate the script hard enough’. One fun note with THIS version of the setting is that there are some very mobian-adjacent looking lifeforms from other planets that aren’t called mobians at all, and have distinct cultures, but live alongside them. A lot of the other sonic continuities lean towards aliens being very 'flying spaghetti monster’ in appearance and not straying from that path. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but having the entire spectrum of creature design in one place is fun to play with!
All of the possible outcomes have various levels of 'is it magic or is it technology’ with a heavier slant towards technology that’s sufficiently advanced enough to look like magic. Sonic The Comic goes a little harder by discussing whether or not things like Chaos energy are particle or waveforms (it’s waveforms) and the implications this has when affecting living things- For example the 'super sonic’ transformation is very much inferred to be some sort of space-time displacement. The best way I can describe it is that sonic is now 4d, and his super state clips in to replace his regular one when his main body is excited by enough chaos energy.
Can you draw a hippocampus please?

Wasn’t sure if I should try and interpret a hippocampus in the mobian/sonic style like with other mythical/heraldic creatures I’ve drawn, or to go for a more animal-like hippocamp..
To start with though did you know that ‘hippocampus’ means 'horse-seamonster’ in ancient greek and not 'horse-fish’? So although they often have fins, they’re not really based on fish, per se… More like scary fantastical sea life?
With that in mind I feel like a sonic-verse Hippocampus might be some sort of catch-all-term for horse-like aquatic mixes and monsters… Maybe it’s the kind of thing where you might have someone who is called a hippocampus but might ALSO be something more specific with their own cool powers, like a kelpie for instance.
Also here’s a more monstrous hippocampus for fun:
